Need Some Serious Help!!!!!!!!!!!

I am trying to install a firewire card into my dell dimension 9100. I bought an adaptec 1394 card. Once i install the card, it causes a problem with my video card, causing my monitor to turn off and not come back on. Is there a difference between a 1394a and a 1394? How would i know what one to use?
I am trying to get this installed so i can use my firebox i just bought. Any help would be appreciated.

does your monitor actually shut off, or is the picture just not there, but the monitor is still on?

Also, have you tried putting the adaptec card in a different slot? That can sometimes help conflicts with other peripherals.

most likely youll have to move your cards around to different slots as cawhite12 has suggested...

just keep moving them around til it works.... you might have to move more than your new card.. all cards may need to move to find the right combination...

Sounds like an IRQ conflict. Follow the above advice that might do the trick.

1394 used to be another term for FireWire back before FireWire 800 came out. FireWire 800 was (during its development) also known as FireWire Beta, and its IEEE name is 1394b. After FW800 came out, the term 1394a was coined for FW400, and is used specifically to distinguish it from 1394b (FW800). Thus, in modern parlance, the term 1394 is used just like the term FireWire, i.e. as a generic term that can refer to either 1394a or 1394b.

In other words, probably no difference at all.
