Hi everyone!
I think that Chris Mauro is one of the best guitar players in the world. But some people would say that I'm a little partial since I'm married to him.
His new song "Capture Me" is up on MP3. He recorded it all in our spare bedroom with his VS1680 recorder!

Check it out and let me know what you think. Since you're not married to him (at least, I hope not), your opinion will probably be a little less biased than mine is!
All honest feedback is greatly appreciated. Feel free to sign his guestbook and add your insight while you're listening to his music.

Thanks,
Tracy

He does some beautiful stuff. I went with Keep Running first. He has amazing control (I believe at the tracking stage) of his levels. A technician and an artist.
And all with just that Roland box. :)
Just a planet to planet comment there...
I caught a few clips but overall the sound was mighty nice. The arrangement was carefully orchestrated.
New Horizon sounded like a very well utilized Portastudio.
A hissy component to the mix that won't go away.

Listened to "New Horizon", but didn't have a choice.
You need to add download links to the other songs.
You are obviously an accomplished guitarist with a
keen sense of rythym...Enjoyed the guitar work.
Liked the lyrics, but then maybe I am one of those
"Biased Christians" ;)
Vocals had a nice tone delivery to them, but would have
liked to hear more levels of emotion spread out through
the song.
Since you mentioned this being recorded on a Portastudio,
I do not feel the need to comment on the recording quality.
It's fine for a Portastudio!
Overall, it's a well-written & executed song.
Now if I could just get my wife to even listen to one of
my tunes, I would be happy.
You are a blessed man to have a wife who loves your music
and would post it here to get our attention.

Dougie: She mentioned he used a VS1680, not a Portastudio!
Roland, not TASCAM.

Dougie, Thanks for your comments. It does work out well that both my husband and I love music. Of course I had my husband read your remarks. :)
New Horizons was one of the first songs he recorded. Not too bad for a beginner. :) I'm pretty amazed that he can do all this from out spare bedroom!

drstawl, Thanks for clarifying the type of recorder. They're all just very expensive boxes with a bunch of buttons and pretty lights on them as far as I'm concerned. Chris is giving me his old TASCAM 4-track so I can record some of the songs I write in order to teach them to other people. But that's probably as advanced as I'll get into the home-recording scene. It almost seems like you have to have an engineering degree to be a musician now-a-days with all the technology involved in it.

My Feces Saturated Brain

Drstawl:
Ooops...You were right.
My fault..I haven't been right since NAM.
I mean...I haven't been right since NAMM.
Nevermind...goodnight.

Wait just a minute, Drsrtawl!
I take back my apology until the missus here can clarify
if "New Horizons" was recorded on the Tascam 4 Track.
She said it was the first song he recorded, so maybe I was right.
If I am wrong, we are taking this to the Florida Supreme Court for a vote.
Hanging Chads, indeed...

Must've been those endless stands filled with Strats set up to play all over the NAMM convention with every conceivable effect and/or amp combination that overloaded your brain. I remember my head was ringing for days after my last NAMM fest.

Since the Florida Supreme Court has been a bit busy lately, I guess I had better clear this up. :) He did use the 1680 to record that version of New Horizon. But since it was the first song he did on there, it doesn't have the quality sound of some of the later songs he recorded.

You two shake hands and make up now! :)

My apologies, Mr.drstawl:
I just spilled some cheap Meijer brand Root Beer all over my keyboard. Am pounding hard to get it to type.
Anyway-Thanks, missus mauro...
Have chris check out drstawl's guitar work too.
The good doctor is one of the best here at this site
arrgh...can't type capitol letters anymore.
gotta buy a new keyboard!

I listened to Capture Me and Keep Running.

Mr. Chris is a good guitarist in the classic rock style. Professional arrangements. It does have a good sound quality, although I would like to hear his stuff recorded in a better studio (perhaps the master bedroom).

I think the vocal was weak, both from a delivery and a mixing point of view. It got kind of squashed into the mix.

Keep on running!
