this will be my first set...
and im not real sure what the "best bang for the buck"
i can get, i am willing to spend around 500 bux for a pair.
i was looking at the roland ds-50a set
simply becuase a local music shop sells them and i wouldnt have to worry about shipping and waiting.

but are there other choices that are better then these?

for instance i heard event makes good monitors too
the event ps5 pair is around 500 also...

i just need some more suggestions as to what i should look at i guess

thanks all
peace

You need to listen to speakers to really know what you want. Your room and the electronics you use have a lot to do with how they'll sound. For instance, I have a pair of JBL 4208s. I liked them enough to get a 2nd pair for a spare when Musician's friend had them on sale for $350. However, when I suggested them in another thread, a lot of people posted that they found them to have a bloated bass sound. I haven't found that to be the case at all and I'm definately a qualified and experienced listener. But I don't question the responses, I'm sure that's what they heard when they used them. But it was in their rooms and not mine and that makes a MAJOR impact on how they will sound and of course the amp and pre-amp you use will make a huge difference too.
My advice would be to try and control that urgent desire that I'm sure you're feeling to "Buy something! Buy something TODAY!!!"
and try to listen to several different monitors before you decide. Also don't write off home audio stuff. Some of that is more accurate than a lot of pro-audio stuff. B&W and Paradigm and Infinity are just three that come to mind and there are many more. Good luck and have fun. :)
