need some expert advice

i want to hook my computer up to a digital multi track recorder to record my backing tracks. i'm just wondering if i need a high quality sound card with large jacks to be able to do this and still get the maximum sound quality going into the multitrack. can anyone help me?

i'm definately no expert but having "large jacks" is probably the least of your worries. any 1/4 inch TRS would be fine. depending on how much of a stickler you are, using tRS may work better than TS.

i guess the best thing would be is to keep everything digital and find someway of transferring files this way... maybe an optical or ADAT of some kind

So do you mean you want to record on the multitracker and then transfer the tracks to your PC? If it's digital, I'd run an optical or digital coaxial (whichever your multitracker's output has) from your multitracker to your pc's input - this would require an optical input on your pc. Several soundcards have optical inputs on them (even certain Soundblasters). It can send 2 channels at once (someone correct me if I'm wrong on this) - start recording with any sound capture program on your pc and hit play on your multitracker. I think/hope this is what you're trying to acheive.
