Hi all,

Newbie here. Im creating my own studio in the other half of my bedroom. I have a curtain dividing my bedroom and studio. And lots of windows (blu in the drawing)... So im currently doubting how to set it all up. Been looking for bass trapping solution but than i thought of the windows (lots of them) and where to set up my desk in the first place. Its been trough all te room in my head. Did some googling, found this awesome forum and thought maybe some of you could give me some advice,im really confused as to where to put it, where to put treatment, so hoping you all could help me. I made a JPEG so hope the situation is clear.

A couple thoughts. We could use better detail.....dimensions....room furniture....ceiling heights.....etc. Carpet......hardwood?? A first glance tells me you might want to think about putting your studio in the end of the room you currently use as your bedroom.....but without more detail.....hard to say.

Hey Mick,
Tnx so much for the reply !

Room is roughly 6 meters long, 4 wide. As i devide it in half itll be roughly 3 x 4. So ive got a curtain of 4 meters. Height is 2.7 roughly. Linoluem floor. Putting my desk / studio in the bedroom is a no go if i want to stay married and live.. ;p
Furniture for now is just the desk, my drumkit needs to be there as wel in the bedroom its a huge 2x2 bed and a book cupboard.

Hope to hear from you.

My suggestion about moving your bedroom was not to move any part of your studio into the bedroom....but to put the entire bedroom setup where you want to put your studio and vice versa. The door to the room would then enter directly to your bedroom and your studio area would be concealed by the curtain. Your wife might like that. As well......then you'd have better options for your studio setup. Short of that....you'd likely have to put your desk on the B wall...but the windows will probably be an issue unless you get them covered properly. And what kind of outside noise comes through the windows? And....what specifically is your equipment setup? Interface...monitors....headphones....amps....etc...etc. What kind of projects are you hoping to do?

I'm leaving a lot of info out because we need to know a little more. As for room treatment......I admit...I'm stuck. Your space is challenging.

Also, what are you trying to record - acoustic instruments, vocals..... ? So the curtain is just to conceal the gear? It's not going to stop any sound.

Tnx for the response !
Recording is not the problem, or anyways not my worries. The curtain is indeed just there to conceal the gear and the door to the room is in the bedroom area, so i cant use this space to put any gear. What i can do is, when i mix, open the curtains and use the whole room for audio, put bass traps in the faraway corners and indeed setup my desk at the b wall, i havent though bout that ! I think thats a good starting point and i see what else comes up !
Any advice in treating the windows ? The speakers probally gonna hit windows 2 and three. If im lucky ill get the early reflection points on wall A and C (fingers crossed :))

Tnx again for the advice !

Bass will go through glass pretty easily, so they actually are not bad bass traps. Unfortunately, highs will bounce off, so heavy drapes/curtains will help. If you want to reduce outside sound, you will need to add an extra layer of sealed airspace with something like plexiglas fit into the window opening. The trick in unbalanced spaces is to get absorption equivalence so whatever is reflected is more or less equal, but if you can treat early reflection points and use nearfields, that's often the best we home recorders can hope for. Get a good set of open back headphones for sanity checks.

Tnx all ! I will get to work and let you know the result !!
