I'm trying to use my DAW as a multichannel sound effect player based on triggers from the real world. Yes, I'm doing something for Halloween.
I'm looking for a sample playing program that will allow loading up to 8 samples (format isn't a problem, but wav or MP3 would be best) that will each be assigned to separate audio card output channels (I have a DAW with 10 channel output capability - E-Mu 1820m if that matters). I also need to have it play the sample upon some external trigger, preferably user-selectable.
I know I can probably set up Sonar or Cubase to do this with each sample assigned to a MIDI note, but I don't have a way to generate a MIDI note on/off from a realworld trigger like a motion or beam crossing detector.
So far I haven't found anything like what I'm looking for. Any ideas, links, software, thoughts, etc. you might have would be welcome. Ideally, this would be something like a theatrical sound effects player that can be triggered by some electronic/automatic means rather than having a human hit a keyboard or punch a key or click a mouse.
Can you help? Thanks.
