I am primarily a guitarist and a vocalist, with some knowledge in piano. The price of the DAW does not matter to me, but I would like to purchase the one with the best quality according to my needs and my instruments. I would like one that records well, mixes well, can make good drum beats over my guitar and vocals, and also provide bass and other instruments for a great sound for live performance.

My biggest problem here is seeing that I am on a laptop. Specifically an aspire 4810tz. Also, my only microphone is a blue snowball, but right now mics and ect would come after I purchase the DAW that best suits my needs.
Aside from recording my guitar with drum loops and bass sounds from the program, I would like to start making digital music as well.

Opinions from experienced users as to what would be the best option for me would be appreciated.

Given that you also want to use the software to play live, if I were you I would take a look at Ableton Live.

I had a "lite" version of it that came with Pro Tools, and while I didn't really learn how to use it, I did play with it a bit.

From my limited experience with it, I could see that Ableton Live would be a good product for playing live. Akai make some controller that are especially designed for use with the product while playing live.

Also, I have noticed that several artists are using Ableton Live on stage, so it's definitely worth a look for your purposes...

Is it good for being a band?

What is your budget ? Reaper is a no brainer and its only $40

WIth the money you save you could get Addictive Drums or some other drum sample software and you could also get one of the Native Instrument bundles...

You may as well download the ]uncrippled version of Reaper and the demo of ADD and the completely FREE Komplete 7 Players.

:)

I have no budget, money is not a problem. I just want something that can basically be my band, and do good recording, regardless of the learning curve or price.

I read that as well, but I also read that it was geared toward electronic music, while I am mainly a guitarist and vocalist.
