I'm looking for an entry level set of passive 8ohm monitors. I have about 150-175 to spend on them. I'm going to be using them to listen to music and the occasional mixing.

I have this amp to power them:

Any suggestions for that range would be excellent, thank you!

What price range are you looking at?
Personally I don't think 40 watts per side will get you very far.
I also would have bought powered monitors the first time out is I knew then what I know now.

hey,

does it have to be passive 8-ohm? imean come on, that narrow it down to like, every monitor in existance... ;)

anyway,.. i think that 40w is fine. we're doing it for studio here right?? considering my ns10m's are 25w each...

but... err, i don't have any recommendations for that price range. good luck though.

Well check these out. I have a set. These are what prompted me to say 40w is a bit low.

They are a huge step up from computer or small typical stereo speakers, however if you can find a set of used BX8's or old stock you'd be much happier. The proto's dont have the low end reproduction on them that I want. You are a little in the dark on the low frequencys until you take the mix out into the real world.

I was pumping 75 to 80 watts into the proto-j's at volume.

Good Luck!
