I've currently got a system with a single Delta 1010. I've been happy with it, but I'm loooking to add more inputs, and like the included mic pres in the MOTU 828, but am wondering about latency.

I'd imagine that the latency of the Delta 1010 and the MOTU would not be identical - is this something I need to worry about (in other words, would it be better to get another Delta 1010 so the latencies are the same for all ports, or will it cause any major problems if they differ)?

Any other issues I should be aware of if using the two different systems (assume at some point I will want to record from both devices simultaneously) versus two 1010's (FYI, I'm running XP Professional with Cubase SX - from what I can tell, it appears that the issues of running two 1010's with XP have been solved).

Thanks,
Bryan

Well I don"t know if you can Sync a Delta and a Motu together Like you can with 2 Delta"s , and without them syncing together You might have Problems...

I would say to get 2 delta"s at they can sync together and will sork together without problems were you might not be able to use a Delta and a MOTU at the same time.....

Maybe someone with personal experience on this matter will chime in....

Good Luck

You might consider also getting the 828, ditching the Delta and getting an 8-channel mic preamp with ADAT out to feed the 828. This would give you extra analog ins that you are wanting, and it would keep it all within the same recording interface, so you wouldn't have to worry about making two different interfaces play nice with each other.

You're less likely to have sync issues if you go with another 1010.

I run 2 Layla 24/96s and they are synced together by wordclock via a BNC cable. One card is set to MASTER, the other to SLAVE, and they run smoothly.

I've run two 1010's and saw no noticable difference in my computers performance. They worked together flawlessly in my case. I like that option best out of the two you've suggested, but I do see the merits of the above option of going to the 828 with an ADAT pre in...

Wow - thanks for all the replies. Hadn't considered using the ADATs as additional inputs (I just figured I'd never use them, since I didn't have an ADAT deck).

More decisions....

Thanks again!
