Hi all,

New to this site. Thanks for letting me post.

I need to record some audio voice only educational CD's through my computer. I am thinking of using cool edit as my recording program. Any feedback on that?

Also

I need a microphone I can use with my computer. What would be the best buy for my job?

Thanks for any help!

Cool Edit's a great program, but if you're looking to do voice only recording, you can get by with something much simpler: check out n-track (there's a forum here on this site) - it's much cheaper and does what you need it to do.

As for a mic: it depends to some extent on the voice of the person who's gonna be doing the talking on the project. Certain voices sound better through certain mics. But keep two things in mind: first, and generally speaking, you get a better sound with a more expensive mic. Secondly, with the money you save on getting cheaper software, you can afford a better mic.

Oh yeah - one more thing, the majority of vocal stuff is done with large diaphragm mics rather than small diaphragm mics - the large diaphragm mics tend to sound better.

Hint: there's a mic forum here too. :)
