Need Help!!!!

hello everyone....i am new to cool edit and i have a problem hopefully some of you can help me with...

when i do a recoding using line in....say in track one.....when i record...why do i only get one line instead of both...i guess the one line means the left or right speaker...and then i have to do the average mix to get it on both lines....sucks majorly.....how do i get them to record on both lines?....i dont know if it has anything to do with my pc or my soundcard or setting or not....lol then again i am new to this any help would be so much appreciated

I think you're talking about recording in mono ("1 line") instead of stereo ("2 lines"). Recording in mono is fine for most things. It sends the exact same signal to both speakers (i.e., not left or right). Recording in mono saves harddrive space, and unless you are recording with some kind of stereo effects, it's totally unnecessary to record any single source track in stereo, because it will sound exactly like mono...(left channel goes to the left speaker, right channel goes to the right speaker, but if they're exactly the same, it's just like mono - only it uses 2x as much harddrive space).

Anyway, if you WANT to record in stereo, just click on the "REC" button on the track (it's right below the "OUT" button), and you'll see options to record from either the left or right (mono) or in stereo.

But again, for the most part, you want to record in mono, then pan stuff in the multitrack, and then only go to stereo when you mix it down.

if you have a mono track in the multitrack session, you just hit the "pan" button and move the slider left or right however wide you want it.
