Need Help with Tascam Us 1800 Interface

Hello I have a Tascam Us 1800 Interface.For some reason when I am recording anything you can not hear any of the audio through my headphones.When you record it and play it back it plays back fine.I messed with the input volume and monitor volume I turn them up and I still barely hear my vocals I am recording through the microphone.Every other interface I have ever owned I could hear fine.Do I need a headphone amplifier to boost what I am recording?Do I need to run my microphones through a better preamp first?Someone please help me???
 
Mix knob gives a a balance between the inputs (mics, keyboards, etc) and what plays back from the computer. Turn the MIX knob full counter-clockwise and see if you can hear the inputs. Set it for a comfortable balance of the inputs and what you want to hear from the computer.

The headphone output isn't real strong on the US1800. I ended up getting a small, inexpensive 4 out headphone amp to use.

I just got a headphone amplifier today.Ill try It tomorrow.Ill get back to you thanks.I love this interface but I know when I go to record my drummers drums he will complain if it isn't louder.Ive been dealing with this for a month recording my vocals and I cant hear myself when I am singing.I love the interface other than this issue.
 
The feeble headphone output of the 1800* has been mentioned before but I wonder if the OP has the signal routing a'right in the DAW software?
In most DAWs I am familiar with you need to set the input source (he has obviously got that right) but also which output the signal is routed to.

*This seems to be more a lack of "gain" than out and out welly? I don't/never had an 1800 (but keep an eye out at Cash Convs!) . When you have signals at a proper -18dBFS there is no way it seems to "pull them up" to decent cans levels?

were should I plug in my headphone amp into the 1800?
 
The unit he purchased (MINIAMP AMP800) Does not have a stereo (TRS) input. He could either take the 'MON Out' from the 1800 to the inputs of the headphone amp, then feed his monitors from the 'Link Out's, Or use a insert cable. 1/4" TRS to two 1/4" TS. Like THIS. I am not sure how clean the Behringer Miniamp is though. It might actually be best to use the cable....

BTW, outs 1/2 from the 1800 is you main out. The 'MON' out is the same as the 1/2 out but it is controlled by the Monitor knob on the front. In other words gives you the ability to mix the direct signal into the interface and that coming from your computer. Hope that made sense.
 
Yup, Jimmies got it right (don't know where he picked up on the MINIAMP AMP800 :confused:). The headphone amps I'm familiar with have the TRS connection available to connect to a stereo headphone out, so not knowing what you had, I kinda steered you in the wrong direction :facepalm:. Sorry about that!!

Its cool I'm trying to figure it out tomorrow.I just got mixcraft pro so everythings working good.I figured out why I wasn't hearing myself well its because I never enabled the monitor on mixcraft.Stupid me but I am going to hook the amp up anyways cuz my drummer wants it hooked up so ill let you guys know if I get the amp figured out.

Mixcraft pro?

You mean the only DAW that has never a mention here with those who record on a regular basis? That should tell you something...

That was from a PM. He asked about how to get more volume from the 1800 headphone out. Then...

All good! :)

I do however wish he would have mentioned what software he was working with. I just want to cry a little for him now...
 
Hey man well a friend gave me a free copy and It sounds great actually.For now until I can afford pro tools it will do but when your on a budget like I am it is what it is.I never said I was a pro and I only started getting my gear a month ago so its all I have been able to get so far.

I was not trying to come across as demeaning at all man. I apologize if it felt that way.

Reaper is free to try and much easier to navigate than ProTools. Much more capable than Mixcraft and will give you many more abilities.

And to be honest, I have never even seen Mixcraft in use so my opinion is merely based upon the fact that nobody uses it.


Again, I was not trying to be a dick. Even though I come across as one from time to time... :eek: :)

I honestly like it its not bad but I will check out reaper sometime.
