On Tuesday, i THINK im getting this

http://www.zzounds.com/a--2676837/item--BEHXENYX1204

for the phantom power, Also, I need XLR Cable right?, so the mic can plug into that mixer, then the mixer to my pc, are all XLR Cables the same?.

i wish the damn mic came with everything I needed lol,had no idea I need to buy cables and the phantom seperate.

without a long explanation, all mic cables function the same for your purposes, but are not all the same by birthright alone. The differences are mainly only in quality not usage any xlr m-f cable will work except for a dmx cable or AES EBU cable which you would be hard pressed to come across in your quest for a mic cable anyway.

Yes, you need an XLR cable. Most XLR 3-pin male to female connectors will do the job. From the mixer to the sound card is a different story, depending on the input of the sound card.

line in on sound cards

Hi,

To expand on what Phil said your mixer line out should record to your soundcard line in. If your mixer line out is RCA pin plugs then a standard stereo 1/8 mini plug to two RCA pin plugs will work. If you have 1/4 inch out you may have to build a cable. (That's what I did. 1/8 inch mini plug to 2 1/4 inch phone plugs.)

You will need to set your recorder software (I recommend hdogg) to a CD quality bitrate and adjust your levels carefully. When you get everything working as good as you can then ab compare your .wav file on the harddrive with your source. If it's clean and compares well, great. If not, well a lot of sound cards weren't really designed for audiophile recording. And a computer case is a noisy place electronically speaking.

One cheap sound card I used to use a lot is the Creative Ensoniq. It really has a pretty quiet line in. Soundblasters, not so much.

But if your line in disappoints I don't really recommend upgrading your sound card. Get an audio interface like an omnistudio instead.

In fact I"m looking for one right now.

Oh, and congratulations on your Superlux mic. I use a CM H8C and it has never let me down saving my butt on several occasions. And I've only used it cardiod so far. It is excellent at isolating background noise like in a restaurant.

Thanks,

Hairy Larry

i use soundblaster as my line in, actually not bad

Congrats on the CMH8

Very impressive mic after feeling how heavy the mic was and using it on a vocal session I had to crack it open, very impressive for a transformer balanced mic, it sounds great on everything Doyen

Ouch...those Avlex mics are locally assembled 3 blocks from here...well the facias are put together after coming from china...so they can say they were made in Lenexa KS.
I bought one several years ago...and it had a thing inside that rattled when you would pick it up...but was decent for the $80 I spent...beat the hell out of the Nady mics I used up till then...and looked like the Shure KSM44 Im using now...I wonder if the shockmount works with it?
