Ok, so I just bought a Tascam us800. I am using it to do drum tracking. Well, I have a few issues. It has gain knobs on the interface, and it has a digital mixer to it as well. Here is what I did, and here lies my problem. I basically adjusted my gain knobs on my interface, so that they wouldn't peak. I didn't really mess with the digital mixer. The levels that got into my DAW (sonar) are really peaking though. I tried to compress them, but that didn't really work. I assume that I am just gonna have to scrap these drum tracks, because they sound like shit lol. I was hoping someone would be able to assist, I am assuming that what I need to do is adjust my gain on the interface, then check my levels on my DAW, then adjust accordingly on the digital mixer? Does that sound right to you guys, I know that I wanna drop the levels done alot so I have more room to mix for sure, but I just wanna make sure this is how to do it. Another thing, I couldn't really hear the drums very well to hear how good I had things mic'ed either, I wonder if this will solve that problem to, adjusting the digital mixer that is???? Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated, this is my first multi-tracking setup I have had, so I am learning slowly.
