I am using a korg-triton that is controlling a eps-16 keyboard. I am using cool edit pro as my mixing software. How do I set up c.e.p. to sync with the two keyboards so that the keyboards start when I press record on the c.e.p screen, and I am not getting any sound from the boards with them plugged into the computer using midi cables. I am not using a midi box because my sound card has midi connections on it. I hope that I left enough info to help. Thanks in advance and happy recording to you all! :D  ;)

I'm afraid that I don't know anything at all about Cool Edit but if it's anything like Sonar (which is the sequencer I use) then you should be able to set the software clock to slave mode. This means that the software now waits for a MIDI clock signal from outside of the software. If you are using the Triton to control the EPS-16 then the Triton should be the master and everything else is a slave.

That only covers part of it though and I'd rather know what your level of expertise is, and the capabilities of C.E.P. is before I go any further...

Midi isn't a magic thing that just happens to keyboards when you connect them to a midi port in your computer.

First, read these two good articles on midi basics - part one and part two.

Cool Edit Pro hasn't been marketed for a number of years now, but still must be the software of choice on pirate boards. I suggest you make a small investment in up-to-date software and try the Tracktion demo. It has good midi editing and they offer a 10 day unrestricted demo version. If you like it it's only $150, and you could consider it an investment in your musical future...
