need help with monitoring sound settings...(?)

Hi-
I've just installed Cool Edit Pro on my computer- and also the Audiophile 2496.
Once hooked up, I sent my drum machine into a couple of tracks.
They recorded and sounded fantastic, but I did not hear anything while recording.
Is the monitor setting on Cool Edit, or does my Audiophile require a settings tweek?
How do I remedy this?

Make sure the tracks are assigned to an output on the audiophile and that you have something hooked up to that output to monitor the sound.

Make sure also that in Cool, you've got channels assigned for both recording and playback. Do you know how to do that?
