need help with fostex vf160 sound

I recently acquired a fostex vf160 with cd burner and can not get any sound out of headphones. I did the quick start for the direct mode recording and made sure the trim was up for the headphone and track. I bought this unit used and am hoping nothing serious is wrong. I am really new to this and very frustrated. If anyone can help i would appreciate it.

Are the meter levels moving? Need to know more to make a diagnosis.

no sound

upon further investigation I found that I get no sound at all through the first 2 channels and only mono through the others. the meter is moving on the others but not on the first 2. panning doesn't work.

Sounds like a bad Op Amp in channel 1&2.
