Howdy, all. Here's our situation -- the music we're doing right now is kind of a NIN thing, in more ways than just stylistically. There's just two of us recording everything in my basement studio. Needless to say, we can't perform this style of music live as a duo and, living in Cedar Rapids, IA, finding quality, talented bandmates is the proverbial needle in the haystack (insert Iowa haystack joke here)...
We're marketing ourselves exclusive online right now and have had some success (zzounds.com band of the week, our songs breaking the top 25 in our genre at mp3.com, etc.) However, the focus of our efforts is through our mailing list, which is largely friends and family. The trouble is, despite positive comments to our material, no one is signing up for our mail list and I feel we can only 'go to the well' so many times, in terms of always emailing the same people (our friends and family) and have them not get bored or even irritated with us, though we usually only mail every 3-4 weeks.
Does anyone have any suggestions on how we can get more people to sign up for our mailing list? We'd also love any suggestions for online marketing in general -- tips, good sites to submit/belong to, etc. We know some of the biggies out there (getsigned.com, garageband.com, etc.) but any advice/input is welcome. Thanks!
