I am trying to basically turn Adobe Audition into a dictation device. The dictation software I found online sucked.
I need to see the waveform and cut out or insert. None of the other programs I found where suited for that.
The problem with Adobe Audition is that I want it to do the following things:

1. Pause/Restart recording with a single keystroke
Unfortunately after stopping recording the program will highlight the last recorded piece and go to the beginning of it, so that you will record over your previous recording when you restart recording.

2. Insert a cue whenever I pause recording.

I have searched the program and its help file but have no idea how to do this. Maybe I would need to write a script, but I don't know how to do that either and have found no material online in that regard.
I would be thankful for any help, although of course the recommendation of a good dictation software would be nice too.
Adobe Audition has the advantage that I already have it already.

if you use the pause button while recording, it will stop recording at that point and resume when you hit pause again.

Thanks.
But the problem is - you can't assign a hotkey to "record" or "pause" can you?

Go to Help/Contents/Keyboard shortcuts. You can also Stop/start with the space bar, but I haven't tried it while recording.

Thanks for the answers.
I figured it out now - little thanks to the deeply stupid help file and the incomprehensible short cut assign menu.
Now I have another problem however - I want the cursor to move with recording and playing, that is, I want the cursor to be exactly at the point where I stop recording or playback.
There doesn't appear to be an option for this anywhere, even though it would make absolute sense to have something like that.
Anybody know how this can be done?

When you press pause, click on the playback cursor to bring the selection cursor to the current position. In options > settings there are some options related to playback scrolling behaviour.
