Need help with cd burner

I have a Philips CDRW 400 series cd writer. Lately, i haven't been able to write a good cd. It goes through the burn process and ejects the cd and says it has burned succesfully. When i try to read the cd, it says that it's blank. When i look at the bottom of the cd, I can see that it has been burned, but it is very faint. (i can barely see the burned part). I used to be able to see the burned part very clearly..now i cannot...I am wondering if the laser is worn out or something. I haven't changed software or operating systems...everything is exactly the way it was when it worked...thanks for any replies.
