yo,
im pretty new to all this but im looking to get serious. Im confused on beat digging tho. i know you look for old loops and beats or something but i dont know where to start looking. also i dont generally know what these old beats are good for. Please tell me how to use these loops and beats in my software (Reason) and what theyre really good for. Also, please help me find some places to get started beat digging.

Like I said, I dont really know. But alot of people are tellin me about "crate diggin" where you get an old set of beats or a sound library and you put them in your own beats. Still need some help tho.

What you are referring to is sampling. I don't like to sample others people's work, but that is just my opinion. What your friends were referring to was to find a old school album, get the beat, and chop it up to use in your work. You can do this if you want although it isn't very creative. Plus if you make money off it, you have to get the sample cleared. Or else you'll have a lawsuit on your hands :)

aight, thanks for clearing that up. but, alot of big producers sample old stuff, right?
