Hi all,

I have been google-ing for the past few days trying to find out more about room acoustic treatment. I would most likely be using my own room as the recording and practicing venue. Since I would be spending quite some time in this place, I thought it meant be worth while to give it acoustic treatment. I play Brass instruments and previously I found my room to be a little dead. Well there used to be lots of junk( paper, books, boxes, files, etc) all over the place. Though I am trying to clean it up now. Primarily there will still be a Table, bookshelf, bed and wardrobe in this room( Thats the best I can do :( ) Currently, my computer is placed parallel to width of the room. I would most likely start creating simple tracks with a Headset first and a studio monitor eventually.(I am no professional)

With all that descriptive text done. I understand that acoustic treatment breaks down into absorbers, diffusers and Bass Trap. What I don't understand is where to place them and how much to use. So far, I only found information that advises viewers to place foam in front of the studio monitors, at the sides? celling? Bass Trap at the corners of the room and diffusers at the back of the room facing the studio monitors. The thing is... I read somewhere that the studio monitor must be placed parallel to the longer end of the room. This is quite a challenge for me if necessary. Currently right of the computer is the window for me.... My room has many jagged edges as well. I am not sure how to install the Bass traps(Its not a rectangle @_@ ) Lastly, what about the instruments? Do I have to adjust the foams, disffuers or bass traps in other ways? Some brass instruments point up...some point front....

Thank you for your time reading this :)

There's a whole section of this forum dedicated to 'studio building' - read away in it!

Or post up a simple diagram of your room there and ask for help.
you have the basics of where to put them about right just stay away from the foam unless you have a problem with the high freqauncies.
most times though its the lows that are a problem.
Go read some more in the studio build forum you'll soon get the idea.
rep for mjb coming up.

edit; You must spead some more rep before giving it to mjb again grrrr
