need help with a bass cab head

i was just woundering i thought i saw somewhere that you can go from a basshead direct to the mixer with out useing a direct box is this true and if so how do you do it.

What kind of bass head is it? Most have xlr out on them these days. My hartke trace and swr all have them.

its a peavey

its a peavey mark 3 it has a line patch on it can i do it through there.

As long as you are using a PRE-AMP out you should not blow any electronics so yes the effect loop out on the Peavey could work but may add some unwanted noise. Placing a compressor with a noise gate between the pre-amp out and the recording input could help though.
