I bought the full ver. of n track, compressor, eq's, etc..Am having a hard time learning it so I am basically needing to know how to run n tracks with a 4-track player. I know how to hook up , etc..I have a Tascam 424 mkIII and need to know- do I just hit record when I'm running my player to my pc? I also want to bounce on my 4 track and mix the rec. stuff on Ntracks. I have no clue on what settings to use. I hooked it last night and got a signal and was able to play back my material on the 4- track but I think I had to press the live button and then I only got one track from N tracks, yet all my 4 tracks were playing and recorded on it. If anyone does this or knows how to bounce with n tracks please let me know as I'd like to use the effects, etcc. and I'm sure the end product would be alot better qualiy plus endless tracks on either player. Basically again , I'm looking to find the correct settings that I would have to use to be able to bounce off my 4 track player. Thanks anyone out there...!!??

tommyIII,
Not sure why you want to bounce tracks back to your 4 track.

I think you are(like me) using your 4 track as a mixer into the PC.

Record track 1. The next time you hit the record button in Ntracks

you should be recording to track 2. And so on.

If you want to take tracks 1,2 and 3 and record them back to

your 4 track you would mute track 4 and beyond and just play 1,2 and 3.

Hope that helps

Thanx but I think you've misunderstood

Thanx FABFOUR -But I think you have my questions reversed.
I want to free up tracks that are rec. on my 4-track to then add others. I'm using a Tascam 424 MKIII as my main recorder and figured that since I had Ntrack, that maybe I could use it for doing this bouncing, or anything that someone might know of on computer, that I can do this with. I haven't been able to figure Ntrack out yet , besides the basic recording part, and I don't have the time and will just use my 4 track for now. So again, if anyone knows of how to take 4 recorded tracks from a portastudio and how to set it , on n track or anything else computer, to be able to bounce them so I can record more tracks on my 4 track. I need to know how to set Ntrack to be able to do this . Hope this clears it up some.
Thanx again.

TommyIII,
You need a Y connector(radio shack) two RCA plugs for the back of your 4 track and a connector on the other end to plug into your
sound card(line in). Experiment with one track on N-tracks and one track on your 4 track. I did this by just hitting play on the 4 track and record on N Tracks. Have you ever mixed down to a cassette player? It is the same method to the PC. I don't know your 4 track but you have to set all four trackes to be outputted(My machine is Tape)

Hope that helps
Fabfour

Hope that is what you want to do

Thanx FAB

Thanx again FAB and sorry it took so long to get back but PC crashed back then and still getting it all together.
Yes ;I've bounced to a cassette rec. before and internally also, but I don't know what ya mean about 1 track at a time. Is it just for experimenting? Anyways I heard there's a way which u can put all 4 tracks from your tape recorder,[ I have a Tascam MKIII]
and lay them on your pc OR N TRACKS, and then record it back to your 4 track on just 2 tracks thus freeing up 2 new tracks and on and on . Have you done this and if so can you explain the method and then after , all bouncing is done, how to do a final mix of all you have? Thanx either way and take care,

tommy,
No I haven't done exactly that but hypothetically:

If you record 3 drum tracks and 1 bass track to your Tascam,
then copy (record) that to tracks 1-4 on Ntracks.
You can then play Ntrack track 1,2 and 3(drum tracks) to track 4
on your Tascam using a cord that has a 1/4 jack at one end for your Tascam and a soundcard type jack on the other end.

I believe that gets plugged into where your PC speakers would get plugged into(not positive but it sounds familiar)

Then you would record the bass from Ntracks to track 3 of your Tascam.

Now that's clear as mud huh

GOTCHA!

Thanx again FAB,
Gotch this time. Only thing is that you would have to rec. them, [originally] all direct then and not be able to buss ; right?
Well either way I know get the idea.
Take care BRO.,
