I really need some help from the Reaper users. I?m new to using Reaper and I have heard a lot of great headway on it. So I decided to use Reaper as my new DAW system for my home studio. I recently moved from NYC back to my home town of Houston, TX and within 3 weeks of me moving back, I was robbed. I use to have Gateway GT5622 PC, Adobe Audition 3.0 to record vocals sessions with and FL Studio 8 to make beats with, a CAD u37 USB Condenser Microphone and Toshiba SD V65HT Home Theater System for my monitors. But thanks to good friends and artists I work with in the past in Houston, they all help me out and I was blessed to overcome what happen to me.
I was given a lot of good used stuff like the following from my fellow friends and artists:
Hardware & Equipment: M-Audio Fasttrack Pro, Gateway powered monitors (not good quality), Audio-Technica AHT-M2X headphones, MXL Microphones 990 & 991, mesh pop filter, Pro Line mic stand, hp pavilion mx703 glass pc monitor to combine with my laptop.
Software & VST: Reaper 3, Melodyne 3, Auto Tune 5, Waves Murcury Bundle set, Izotope Ozone 4, Phatmatik pro 1.0, Izotope RX, Tracks 3, FL Studio 9
I?m working with my Toshiba Satellite Laptop Windows 7 Ultimate, ADM Turion, 1.90GHz, 2 GB RAM, 64 bit operating system.
My questions to you all is:
1.) Out of all the VST I have gotten, which one's are the best to use for my recordings in Reaper?
I?m mostly going to record artist?s vocals over Hip Hop, Rap, R&B and some Reggaeton mp3 or wav instrumental beats.
2.) I would like to have the vocals I record leveled, not dropping (up or down), I guess I'm kinda looking for a auto or simple gain rider to control the vocals from going (Up & Down).
3.) Something to control the plosives ? sibilants. (I'm using a mesh pop filter) but just want to have something extra behind the pop filter just in case any P's or S's come out.
4.) How to remove the Hum or Hiss from my recordings, the microphone picks up everything off the m-audio fasttrack pro interface.
5.) Should I start my recording levels at -6dB or -18dB to give me space to work with compressions?
I just want the vocals I record to be clear as possible. I'm using a XML 990 Condenser Microphone.
I do have a sound booth I made out my coat closet all padded with foam and a rubber shock mat on the floor. It?s 2' feet x 3?½? feet x 8? feet high.
(I attached photos of booth and my set up below)
I?m really looking forward to anyone?s advice on my matter, Thanks and God Bless you all in the Reaper Community.
