Hi everyone im new to the forum and im also new at recording music, other then with a simple hand recorder. I just got the tascam dp 008 and have been doing research, reading forums, watching youtube videos, and reading the manual. I followed the maunuals instructions the best I could but It doesnt seem to hear any playback, iv turned up the master levels and track levels and the knob on the side and still cant hear it. I was thinking maybe I didnt have the recording settings set up right.

Im trying to start simple with an acoustic guitar using the internal microphones in the recorder, so at the moment my recorder doesnt have anything plugged into the inputs, I have the ac adapter plugged in, and headphones plugged into the headphone jack, but thats all I have plugged into the recorder at the moment. I guess im also wondering if I should have anything else plugged into the recorder to start recording.

When I hit record I test it and on the display I can see bars raising and lowering so im thinking the record must be picking up the sound.

When I try to record it I press the record button under track one, I understand theres a main record button that says "auto-punch" above it, and from what I understand I have to get that button blinking too. I just dont know what order to press the different recording buttons I suppose. Iv also tryed hitting "rec mode" then selecting "muti track" on the display but it goes to home screen and I still cant get it to work right.

I guess maybe I was hoping for a quick walkthrough for setting up the recorder to get started

I dont know im really confused, and this turned out to be a long thread that I feel like has alot of holes in it, but its hard for me to explain any better, I wouldnt be suprised if no one wanted to reply to it but I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks

ok, let me try to help you. make sure input of the two front condenser mics are on in the input set-up. once thats done ..if your recording in stereo..using both mics make sure the rec lights are on track 1 and 2......play guitar to make sure your not clipping out.....ok, if your gonna just use 1 track to record on like track 1...make sure the track light is on for track 1...then record..make sure your signal is loud enough to record. before you record make sure you hear the guitar in your headphones or speakers and you should be able to hear it on playback..get back to me
