So I'm considering buying the Neumann TLM 102 condenser mic or the Neumann BCM 705 Dynamic mic mainly for vocals, but I just want to make sure it's worth the 700 dollar price tag. I live in a small apartment, I don't have any special room or soundproofing, so my question is will I be able to use the full potential of this mic without a sound booth and other specialized equipment? With my setup will I get a whole lot more for that 700 than I would for a mic that's say 400? Should I instead invest that money in a Ribbon mic? Or a Valve mic?

A friend of mine has also recommended the Beyerdynamic m160 double Ribbon mic. Thoughts?

I'm looking for something that will give a smooth, warm, rich feel, I have a tricky voice and getting it to sound good through a Microphone hasn't been the easiest.
I'll attach two songs, one Original and one Cover so you can get a sense of what I do and how I sound. Sorry if the mix is rough, I'm new to all this.

Ivory Tower-me (used the sm58 on this)
Sunday Morning-Maroon 5 (used the condenser on this)

Okay so this is my setup:

Focusrite Scarlett 2i4o interface.

Shure SRH 440 headphones

Seymour Duncan "Woody" Pickup (passive)

Yamaha P-60 Keyboard

Roland TD-15 Electric Drum Kit

Shure SM57 and SM58

2 Audio Technica AT813R Condenser Mics

Going into Reaper (I'll have Studio One soon)

PC

(IMHO, YMMV, etc., etc.)

Never liked it on vocals from the get-go. Too detailed. Makes a very nice semi-distant / room mic on a lot of things -- strings, winds, harp, etc. That said, if you're in an untreated room, I'd run the other way quickly.

Maybe try something a bit more "friendly" to the human voice (while not so freaky-sensitive that a mouse's tummy gurgling 15 feet away doesn't come through clearly)... SM7B (high on the list), RE20/27/320 (I haven't personally tried the 320 but trusted ears have told me it sounds pretty similar to the 20), Heil PR40... All MC dynamics (no surprise, most legendary vocal mics are), all freakishly good for the $$$, all wonderfully versatile.

Then use the money you saved on at least *some* amount of broadband trapping (which you should have had before you bought anything else on your list anyway).
