Need help hooknig up my mixer

Ok, I just got my equipment in today and just got back from Radio Shack, hoping I didn't buy the wrong things. I did search, but it's still not working.

So, here's what I'm working with:
Behringer UB1002- it has Main Out, ctrl room out, tape out and tape in (both tapes are rca's). I have my mic (v67g) hooked in. Currently what I have hooked up is the main out to the line in on my onboard sound card (I know, will get another soon). How I'm doing that is with a 2 1/4" to 1 1/4" y adapter, then a 1/4" cable that ends in 1/8" that is going to my line in on my computer, but when I press record and say, "hello hello, testing testing" I hear nothing, nor do I see the L and R lights moving on the mixer itself. Here's a pic of the mixer....

*edit* I had an extra rca> 1/8" y adapter if that will do any good.

oh wait, just reread your post and it says you don't see lights
what microphone are you hooking up? is it a condenser? you're hooking it up to the XLR input right?

No. Only lights that are lit are the power and the +48v, but the levels are not lighting.

Haha it works! I didn't have the main mix volume up. Woohoo.... I can only hear out the left side though. I'm guessing that has something to do with the cables I bought?

Does that mic require phantom power?

is your panning set center on that track? are you getting levels on both meters now? are you hearing the left side when plugging into your mixer headphones or the computer speakers?

Yes, it's a V67g.

Panning is center and yes, only the left side is working on both the headphones and speakers.

I haven't recorded into a software program yet, I was just monitoring, I can hear through my speakers and the headphones

hmmmm....i don't know. should be working for you. i'm guessing panning it to the right gets rid of the sound?
try another pair of headphones?

The problem is with the adpaters I bought, they must be giving a mono signal somewhere, I should have bought the stereo adapters. Even the headphone adapter Im using temporarily says accepts 1/8" mono to 1/4" stereo.... looks like back to Radio Shack I must go. The RCA adapter I used on the tape out, worked fine, so that's got to be where the problem is.

sounds like it may be. i didn't realize you were using an adapter with the headphones.
make sure the cable you get for the computer is two 1/4" TS male ends terminating at one 1/4" TRS end. And then your adapter to the computer is a TRS 1/4" female to TRS 1/8" male.

with the headphone you need a TRS male 1/4" to TRS 1/8" female adapter. Ask them at radio shack about this...they SHOULD know
(although isn't their phrase "Radioshack...you've got questions, we've got the wrong answers!)
