Need Help getting Started

I just purchased a HP computer at Sams. It has 512 mb ram, a 2.2 ghz amd athalon processor and an onboard reatek al658 sound card. I think I want a tascam us122 with ntrack or cakewalk software. I am recording my acoustic guitar and my voice and would like to add drums & bass as well. Am I on the right track?
 
What is your budget?
You will most likely want a better sound card than the tascam. At least one that isn't USB.
Is this computer a laptop or a desktop?
How many simultaneous tracks would you ever like to record at a time? (not just now, but think of in the future also)

I got a US122 and I like it a lot. I had no trouble with the USB on an older PC. The bundled Cubasis software is limited. You may want to spring for Home Studio.

It's a desktop. I would like to record at the most 4 traks at one time. I think that this tascam us-122 is more than just a sound card, I think its an interface as well, I'm not really sure.

I tried to check out your song but I didnt have alot of luck. I'll try it again after my "nap", with a fresh mind. Thanks for responding, is that Cakewalks Homestudio 3?

Yes, I meant Cakewalk's Home Studio.

The US122 can only do two channels at a time.
