I'd like to get started in digital recording with my computer. I have a PowerMacintosh 6500/250 (which is a 250 MHz 603e, with 64 MB RAM, CD Rom, 4 GB hard disk, 3 or 4 PCI slots). I know that some software/hardware requires a 604 or G3 processor, and I could upgrade.

Other than computer upgrading, I've got about $800-$1000 to spend on recording software/hardware. I need some pointers on software and hardware for a basic digital recording setup. I'd also like to get things I can upgrade/expand in the future.

Would I be better getting a tape four or eight track machine (I have a loaner tape 4track right now) or a standalong digital recorder for that budget?

thanks,

Steve

First, my question was about getting started with Macs, and so your post didn't answer my question. Second, the MacOS is the superior operating system to Windows.

Thanks!

In my opinion, I think you should spend the money to get a good sound card, and a good mic. One of my favorite mics is the Audio technica 4033. It goes for around $390.00 I think at musicians friend. www.musiciansfriend.com Adn You'll have to read all the recent posts about sound cards, 'cause there are many options. And get some studio monitors, I'm getting the Event 20/20p monitors, everyone says there awsome for the price. You might want a mixer too, and a preamp like the ART tube MP preamp, (at musicians friend for $99.00!!)

Hope I helped.

Adam.
