Can I record a live instrument (Guitar, bass, microphone, etc. . .) to a track in Reason's sequencer? I have a multi-channel soundcard and pre-amps. Or do I need to use Rewire with in conjunction with another multi-track recording program such as Cakewalk Sonar? Thanks.

i could most certainly be wrong but i think you are better off to record your track with software designed for that. Use rewire and things will work out smoothly, i have found that sonar and reason work well together for me anyways. If you cannot afford rewire compatible recording software like sonar, one ofption might be to get a cheap recording software like cool edit. you could export your reason project as an audio wav, load it up into cool edit multitracker, and record your real instruments. Then export each of your recorded instruments and load them into reason.

good luck.

also, as far as I know, you would be better off rewiring your reason tracks into your multitrack program.

Several options

1. Rewire. This can annoying to set up and it's tough on the old cpu and ram, depending on your version of reason and way that you use reason. If you have less than a G4 with 512, you might want to explore other options.

2. Record the part that you want in any other program. Export the Reason song and listen to it on headphones while you play along. Then use any simple wav editor to break it up into managable chunks. Then you can Recycle and load it into the Rex or load those .wavs into the redrum or nn19. Sequences as necessary. Make sure you label them clearly as you break the track up.

3. Export Reason tracks to wav/aif. You can't do this with one command. You need to solo each track, one at a time, on the mixer and then "Export Song to Audio", one at a time. Then you can load each wave into you audio program on it's own track. If you do this, I would suggest exporting without delay, reverb, or compression. Apply those in your master program, along with filter sweeps, etc. You'll have more control. I've done this a few times.

As a brief aside, the Props forums are very good, especially if you are a registered user and log into the Phead forum instead of the General one. If you can't because you are using bootleg software, please purchase it as soon as you can afford it. They are a great company, but they are small company- 12 people or something like that. It's not like your stealing from Bill Gates. Their product is great, and they deserve the $$. I'm not a friend of theirs, just another user. Even if you are a legal user, others might look at the post, and they should here this if they are using bootlegs.
