I just got a J Station, i installed the J-edit software, i have a 15 pin JoyStick to Midi cable from my computer to my J Station.I cant get the J-edit Software to Recognize my J Stion, It keeps saying J Station not found on any Midi Ports. What am i doing wrong?

Here are a few things to check:

1) Be sure the jack on the back of the J-Station is in the MIDI position. Physically, this will require the switch to be moved closest to the MIDI jacks. The diagram on the back of the unit can be confusing.

2) Be sure the MIDI OUT of the computer is connected to the MIDI IN on the J-Station and vice versa. The labels on the adapter cable can also be confusing, so try swapping them.

3) J-Edit doesn't seem to work with Windows NT or 2000, so be sure you're using Windows 95/98/Me.

4) If you're running any virtual midi ports on your computer (for pc-based synths for example), disable them in your control panel. It is possible that J-Edit is looking for the J-Station on these virtual midi ports.

5) Try adjusting the midi settings in J-Edit. Once J-Edit is running (even without finding the J-Station), go to the MIDI settings menu and select the actual MIDI IN and OUT ports where the J-Station is connected. Then exit J-Edit and restart it.

6) Are you using a Sound Blaster Live! card? For some reason, these have had problems maintaining a solid system exclusive connection with the J-Station. This is necessary for J-Edit to connect to the J-Station.

If none of these work, contact Johnson tech support for further troubleshooting: (801)566-8800.

Good Luck!
