I'm new and dumb to this - I have a little Behringer Ub1204fx mixer and am recording on my PC - I don't think I have it cabled properly, as I dont really know how to use the mixer. Right now I am just running from the tape outs (rca jacks) to the line in on the soundcard.

How do I do it right?
Thanks

You can either use those or the balanced outputs from the mixer into your soundcard (if it has balanced input connections). If not, you're probably stuck with the way you have it setup without upgrading your soundcard.

I have a SB Live card - one line in - 1/8 inch. Which outputs to you mean? I have xlr main outs and control room 1/4 inch.... only the rca plug tape outs

You've got it wired fine. It's proly the quietest output on the box. If you upgrade your sound card to something with 'balanced' inputs, you'd proly want to use the main outs instead. Until then, you're fine.

will

OK, thanks, I'll leave well engouh alone then... Do I need to be coming back from my sound card, back into the mixer and, if so, for what purpose?

your sound card should go out to the monitors...running it back into the mixer could create a loop

yeah. just be sure your monitors are off when you turn your computer on and off. as in, computer on, then monitor on. when it's night night, monitors off, then computer off.

pop goes computer, blown go the monitors.

OK, thanks - seems to be working OK.

I dont have monitors, only my computer speakers - I'd like to get some -any recommendations on inexpensive but decent quality ones?

Thansk
