Alright heres the deal. I currently have 2 rooms that run adjacent to each other both with one door, no windows. Im planning on putting a window between the control room and the live room. How should i go about running cables from room to room. I checked out some wall plates but want some other input in the matter. Im also buying a digital board ,,, any tips on BRAND.

Thanks for the help

Wall plates are good. How much do you want to spend a board?

$1000-2500

Something not too complex that is going to last

Studio Monitors

How do you run in studio monitors for the musicians

Monitors for the musicians? Nah. Headphones and make sure they don't leak sound back into your mics. You'll need a headphone amp. Behringer makes a good one at a very reasonable price. I use a model HA 4400. Another model has come out since this one so you can probably pick one up on eBay for about $35. Don't take this wrong but it sounds like you've got a lot of studying/research to do. You couldn't have picked a better BBS to find out everything you need to know. Good luck.

Though I don't have any personal experience with this, I have a good friend who's opinion I trust who swears by the Tascam DM24 digital mixer. I had the chance to visit his studio a few weeks ago to see this board in action and now I'm a believer. This board will cost you just shy of your $2500 figure, but it is loaded. Compression and parametric eq on every channel, built in effects, tons of internal and external routing capabilities, and on and on....

For room construction, check out the link darwin provided to the SAE site and start asking questions here. There are tons of people with lots of advice to share.

For your wallplates, if you can't find what you want, you can always make your own. I think Trackrat had some photos in another thread last week showing how he punched out a 2-space rack blank to meet his needs.

Good luck.

Darryl.....
