Need heavy dist, looking into Sansamp GT2...

I've been doing some direct rec'ding to my computer recently with Cool Edit Pro. I am recording mostly some original metal songs. I've been using my Zoom 505 direct to the comp, and since I have my Aiwa stereo system hooked up the my comp, the distortion im getting sounds pretty good. But I know on most speakers it wouldnt sound professional, and to a certain degree that is what I am after. My friend recorded using a digital 8track w/ a Sansamp GT2, and the distortion was very heavy. So I am looking into buying a GT2 to record direct to my computer. Does anyone have any experiences w/ this?

i don't know exactly what you are doing but you can't really do anything with any kind of home stereo system....you can get ps5s from event , powered , near field monitors, for about as much as a nice home stereo.($500)....but of course i'm sure this is obvious.........you didn't mention your soundcard, so i won't talk about that...

the tech 21 stuff is cool...you can get good sounds with that stuff, heavy sounds...but you might also consider the new pedal from line six, the distortion modeler..i've been waiting on this for a year and i think they will probably release it in the next month or two....

if you are into really heavy sounds try running your guitar thru a filter like electrixs filter factory or the autopole plug in from fxpansion.

I have the Sans Amp GT2 and have been using it for years! As a stomp box through an amp it is delicious. However as a line in device it is not quite as terrific (it still is good when used that way). The Sans Amp Classic costs about $100 more but is well worth it; buy it and you may never leave your house again.

This is kinda funny, I also use Cool Edit Pro and a Aiwa stereo system though I use a Delta 66 for the computer interface, and the SansAmp GT-2 for my guitar. The problem that I had was getting good distortion. I tried everything with the GT-2 and just could not the right distortion sound I was looking for. But I have a DigiTech RP-10 and it does have the right distortion but it didnt have the tube sound I needed. So I ended up setting the GT-2 to be clean with just a thick tube sound and I ran the RP-10 into the GT-2 and this way I got the distortion of the RP-10 that I wanted plus the great tube of the GT-2 that I needed. So, if you are using a distortion pedal that you like, try running it into the GT-2. Though be sure to set up the GT-2 to be clean (i used the Tweed setting with very little drive) so that you wont get overtones from both distortions.
