Anybody have experience with Phonic Mixers for home recording? Mars has a pretty good deal on the MM1705 ($179). How do they compare to other name brand mixers? I can't seem to find much info about them on this BBS.

Thanks for any help.

I saw those mixers at mars too. THey look identical to the behringers, cosmetically. They carry identical price tags too. I don't don't know if the specs show differences.

I would suspect that they are made at the same company and just get different vendor's brand names slapped onto them.

Personally, I don't know if behringer is a bad thing because I've never used anything by them. Here, behringer boards are either loved or hated. So choose you side I guess.

I've used a Phonic integrated mixer/power amp at school.

The salesman who sold it to us said that Phonic actually makes parts for Yamaha, and the integrated mixer we bought was identical to a corresponding model from Yamaha.

It's probably all bullshit. Over here they'll say anything to get you to buy their goods.

As for quality... we've been using it for about 6 months now without too many problems. One thing is that there is noise when we engage the phantom power, but other than that it works OK. Doesn't bother us since we use all dynamic mics.

It doesn't sound all that bad either, although the mids are kind of harsh sometimes.

behringer... :)

I am the PA guy in my church, and we're using a Phonic mixer/amp as well... it is pretty decend and tough since we have been moving it around every week for years!

For my own home studio, I am using a behringer 602A.... and love it for its price and performance.

Personally, if these 2 mixers go for the same price, I would go for the Behringer cos Behringer's product does have certain quality whereas Phonic is a Taiwan company... nuff' said.
