i know this is homerecording.com but i need
help and i know some very skillful folks hang
out here

i've been trying to run p.a. for the acoustic
duo i'm in.
using 57s/8s and trying to apply the voice coil vs mic axis rules but having trouble with feedback despite lots of dicking around
with eq, micplacement etc.

i've never been thrilled with the sounds of
those particular mics but was told by several
"sound men" to mic the acoustic guitars with
the 57s and sing into the 58s and that was
supposed to be the tried and true industry
method. i'm just not liking it.

would it work to just use a decent studio mic
for each guitarist/vocalist and a couple of
wireless in ear monitors and 86 the stage monitors???

what other problems might arise?

thanks in advance for any suggestions

What would you think about pick ups on the acoustics, something like the Fishman system or the like? Hell, a Bill Lawrence in the sound hole would beat a mic in a live situation especially if you run your own sound from stage. Think acoustic pick ups.

track rat, thanks for the input.
i've tried the acoustic w/ pickup route,
still had lots of feedback probs on stages
both indoor and out.
for some reason the in ear monitor sys seems
like it would solve a couple of probs
1. max feedback rejection due to speaker voice coils pointed away from mic axis
2. no monitors to haul around or clutter the
stage.
i'm wondering if anyone has tried this and
what they discovered.
thanks again
