I have a computer with xp on it but no drive for the cdrom. this computer is not hooked up to the internet so got any ideas on how to get it going

CD rom drives don't need drivers on XP at all. Even my DVD burner needs no drivers.

No joke, plug it in, it'll auto detect and install the driver from the windows database all autopilot.
If it doesn't work you have other issues.

it must be other issues then. got any ideas where to start then?

Check your jumpers. Try CS (cable select) to detect. Try it at the end of the IDE cable alone and if that works slave it to something else on the master spot. Try the IDE 2 cable spot...

Troubleshooting: change one thing at a time and restart the machine. Check the screen on bootup to see if it's detecting at all in POST.

is it just not showing up in windows XP?

maybe have a browse through the bios, see what you can learn

Thanks for the reply's. Will check out a few things that these tips reminded me to check. Will reply when going through a few more things and let you know what I find out.
