Hey Guys!

Im new to the whole audio world, and my goal is to first play the piano and perhaps within a year, make my first track. I had a budget of $1,200USD to put together a small base studio and after talking to several guys at Guitar Center, here are the products I plan to purchase. I'm also on a PC btw.

1. Soundcard- Presonus AudioBox Usb
2. Mic- Shure SM27
3. Keyboard- Yamaha P95B
4. beatpad - Akai MPD26

Please let me know what you think. They said the Presonus Audio box is just a wonderful soundcard for the value. They also told my the shure sm27 is pretty bad ass but if anyone can recommend another mic, I wouldnt mind taking other suggestions ( they all sold out on the Sm27 ) ! They also told me this Yamaha 95B has the best piano feel and sound to it and if I do plan to make my own techno/beats/syn, I should check out the Akai MpD26.

Please let me know if you guys would recommend anything else. I didnt add the monitors yet since I will start off using my headset and learn to slowly play the keys, till Im ready to play with beats, I will find out about monitors. In the mean time, please let me know what you guys think and suggestion. Im very new at this and any suggestion is very valuable to me !

Personally I'd bite on the Tascam US800 and a Shure SM7B. You'll be spending the same amount of money but getting much more bang-for-the-buck. Only downside to this is that the US800 is discontinued and stock may not be available when you buy.

Oh great! I will check those model and brands out, Yea seems like audio stuff can be sold out and long gone. I will look into your mic since they dont carry the one they personally recommended. As for the soundcard, I will search around for it and check it to see if there is any out there. Thanks for the feed back!

The only place that had the Tascam US-800 left was Amazon, through an associated seller - as of last week, I haven't checked this week.

1. Soundcard- Tascam 1800 $300 OR Tascam US-800 $159
2. Mic- Shure SM7B $305 (new ebay)
3. Keyboard- Yamaha P95B $500 (new ebay)
4. beatpad - Akai MPD26 $189 Amazon

$1300 or $1160

The SM7B is not a condenser but it is an awesome vocal mic (as well as guitar amp mic).

I don't know anything about the keys, but there are a ton of keyboards out there for less than $500...

Presonus Audio box might be all you need but it only has two tracks - the Tascam has 8 or 16 depending on the model so you can record vocals/keys/guitar/drums on unique tracks.

I don't use a beatpad either but when I want to make beats I just use my keyboard (which is a sampler so I can make beats or whatever and it has a sequencer in it) but you might want to try out some other ones and see what you like. If I was only getting one mic the SM7b would be my choice...

thanks

Thanks Arcadeko!

Guitar Center recommend the Yamaha P95B, they said its probably the true piano key board on the market and I want to play a real close to real grand piano and they recommend me that one. Please let me know if you have another keyboards in mind ;)

Since Im new to audio, what other mic would you recommend? Im a little torn on a few other mics in the 300 range as well. What mics would you recommend for vocals , purely vocals?

Yea, I plan to just use a keyboard and mic for the most part. So the Presonus would be a great deal for the situation. Im considering with the beatpad down the road, would I need a different sound card if I end up getting a beatbox? I hope I dont need 3 track if Im getting a beatpad.

Thank you so much for the feedback, I feel more confident to put this together very soon.
