Hello audio people!

After doing a lot of research I'm getting close to buying my first DAW. I'm gonna play safe and use a PIII as well as a motherboard without the VIA-chipset.

Here goes...

PIII 800Mhz 133Mhz FSB
Asus CUSL2 w/ onboard video
Maxtor 30Gb ATA/100 7200rpm
Crucial 256Mb PC133 CAS2 buffered ECC
Midi tower 300W

Other things like a monitor, cd-rom I already own and I think they're of decent quality so upgrading them didn't seem like top priority to me. Maybe later on...
What do you think of the video card that comes with the CUSL2?
Do I need to get another or could I go with that one. I'm not a gamer nor working alot with graphics.

Anyone who would like to make remarks, please do so...

You may want to add a second hard drive that will used be exclusively for audio....not sure about on the onboard video.
It should be o k.....

i think if you put a video card in the agp slot on the asus it will disable the video...though i bet the onboard video is pretty good.....actually, it's probably a plus if you have a use for the micro atx version. the version without video is atx model cusl2-c.

your system sounds pretty similar to the one i'm trying to get together...(waiting on the damn cpu cooler)..so i gotta like it..

j,

About that cpu cooler of yours, I'm glad you brought that up because I'm wondering about cooling computers in general. Do I need to get special designed, silent fans on my power supply and processor since they are going to be used in a DAW? Or is that stuff mainly for overclockers? (Overclocking is nothing I intend to do.)
And what about the hard drive, do I really have to put a fan on that?!

i bought a golden orb fan to put on my cpu (p3 1Ghz), but when i got the cpu , there was a warning letter that advised against using orb fans. i called the dealer i purchased the cpu from and some dude told me that there is a problem with heat dissipation and orb fans....so i ordered a cooler master from an entirely different dealer...however, i'm hanging on to the orb fan, cause i might just try it out later to see what happens....

the main things , besides the usual stuff, are an adequate cpu cooler and a good power supply....additional cooling fans are a matter of your particular setup....
