If all goes well, I will be re-enrolled in school by the end of the year. While one goal is to begin working on a master's degree, I also plan to take some of my financial aid refund (dont tellanyone but I just got me a sweet scholarship!!!!) and put it towards my fledgling music production company.

I have a skeleton plan of what should be done to release and promote a cd. But I am wondering if my plan is too skeleton or just not "good enough" . . .

Steps To Promoting a CD Release

1 Store Ready Product in Local Stores . . . Posters/Flyers on Window of Store (when possible)
2 Flyers (maybe sampler cds) passed out at any and every local event of value
3 Perform at any/every open mic, with cds flyers on hand
4 Contact radio stations (even though they won’t play, just bugg em everyday)
5 Send out Press Kits to radio and local television stations

Feel Free to Tear My Skeleton Plan out the Frame . . .
No sense in me acting like i know everythang!! . . .

What kind of music? A band or a solo act? Are you the act or are you promoting their album?

i am in a group and we do hip hop music. but i am specifically thinking about my solo hip hop project.

That sounds good then.

A cd release party is always a must. It looks pretty good though

I was thinking about a cd release party. Actually I was going to try and pull a seperate one in various areas. But, since I have not done it before -- I am really unclear about one major thing: Is the "artist" getting released supposed to just PERFORM his ass off all night ? (sounds terribly troublesome) or just have a couple of song performances through out the night . . . with other "show" attractions . . . like the dj doin his thing and just "dance" time or maybe even some type of battle contest goin on through out the night . . . ?

got time???

Your skeleton plan requires alot of time. DO you have it to give???
Remember, there are only 16 hours of daylight, 1 hour to wake up and get ready, 6 to 8 hours to work the day job or school, x hours to study if a student, and at least one ohur to wind down before going to bed.
How many hours in a day do you have to spare????

well thats precisely why i am also trying to either build a street team, hire a street team promo company or find someone . . . say a marketing major in college who wants to work with me in this venture. i

a company/group/label, etc. all consists of two equal sides:
1) artistical talents (me, me, me, all day)
---------------- song creation:
lyric writing
track making
song editing (mixing, mastering)
cd cover designing

2. business talents
web site maintaining (me so far, but looking to pass the torch)
station contacting
show booking/event planning
promo organizing (flyers, etc.)
