Sankyo STD1510. I just picked this dusty thing up in a junkshop for $10 and, lawd gawd, it works! It's a big meaty woodcase tape deck with RCA in/out jacks and something with 5 or 6 female pins labelled REC/PB (like a keyboard port on a PC). I cleaned it up and started using it to master stuff from my tascam 4-track. Holy moly, it works, though it's taken a few hours of experimenting. It sorta eats tape every now and again (let's say, every 5th take). It has a switch labelled "Limiter". Questions:
1) what is the "Limiter" switch for?
2) It has 2 VU meters, one in, one out. What's my ideal target for recording when the range given is 20-10-7-5-3-2-1-0-Dolby-3-5+.? From 20 to 1 is green and the others are red.
3) How can I stop this beast from chewing tape? It seems like a housebreaking issue, in case that makes sense.
4) Do I leave the CrO2 switch on or off when recording? My guess would be ON, since I'm using Type II tapes.
5) What is the REC/PB switch about?
6) Am I just too cheap and lazy to go out and buy a new mixdown deck or a CDR? I have researched these things, but I can't seem to find all I want in my price range (Under $400).
Can any kind soul take a crack at some of this? I'm ready for a drubbing. I wish I had a picture to post, this thing's a real relic.
Thanks,
Neila
