I would appreciate any of you oldtimers in recording to assist me in a very large personal venture.

I recently acquired (by a Miracle) a collection of over 5000 LPs of MINT Classical and Popular music from a collector in the U.S. The albums are all in their original cases and some have never been opened. The project that I would like to
entertain if feasible is transfering the Music onto
Compact Disks. I have heard that CD technology has advanced
tremendously and now the CD recorders are priced where even
a Home operation is possible. I just don't know where to start. The only contact I have had with CD's is putting a Cd
in my computer to load programs or to listen to music.
Are there any hookups to the old turntable systems to write CDs? Any suggestions and all advice would be greatly appreciated.

P.S. The reason I am even considering this huge project is because many of the LPs are First releases and never again
recorded. I have played many of the LPs and the sound is incredible for many of the Lps are over 50 years old.

I am not an expert on this but let me give a stab. First you
need a cd burner, the quicker the better, I think the new ones are up to 12x, mine is 8x; you have to record the lps onto the hard drive via your sound card then transfer them to cd. I dont believe you can tranfer them directly through the computer. There are stand alone cd burners that you may be able to use that may be better for the application you intend where you can go directly from the turntable to cd?
I am sure you will get a more complete answer from the members here, someone will come to the rescue.

Dragonworks has the answer. Make sure you have a decent soundcard, even Soundblaster will do. There are several threads currently on this board addressing similar issues. View them.
