Hello All

I need some advice/opinions regarding the acoustic treatment of my studio’s back wall which basically consist of a closet area on the left side, and a little hallway to the bedroom’s door on the right side as seen in the pictures below. .

I took off the doors of the closet in order to make more room.
Within this closet are 14”x14” boxes within which i will be putting my old dj records.

My questions are at the bottom.

First I'll try to explain the main dimensions of the Room and the Back Area followed by some of my ideas on probably what to do with this back area:

Room Dimensions:

Height = 95 inches (7ft 11”)

Width = 122.5 inches (9ft 4 inches)

Length: 1. Front Wall to Closet opening = 146 Inches (12 ft 2inches)
2. Front Wall to Bedroom Door = 175 inches (14 ft 7 inches)

Back Wall Dimensions:

Closet Opening = 71 inches (5ft 11 inches) (from left wall to middle wall)
- Closet Deepness from Opening to Boxes = 13.75”

Closet height between floor & Closet top Wall = 79.375 inches (6 ft 7 inches)

Middle Wall between Closet & Hallway = 4.75 inches wide

Hallway = 36.75 inches (> 3 ft) from middl wall to right wall
- Hallway deepness to door = 28.625 inches (2ft 5inches)

General Notes:

1. Music styles to be produced: Mostly Dance Music = Trance, Prog...; also Ambient, Chillout......
Basically lots of bass-lines and kick drums ( low freqs)

2. Due to the room dimensions and the style of music I produce, I am planning on Bass Trapping the Hell out of this room with the
front & side walls, even the back area off course.

3. I plan in filling up the closet opening with bass traps and/or diffusers
With the Corner traps on the left side of the closet, it should work just fine to seal that whole opening

4. Behind the bass traps/diffusers at the closet opening there is an air gap behind them ≥ 8 inches (record boxes in the back-round) which to my
understanding would also improve the absorption even more!

5. Distance between Listening Position & Closet Opening = 6ft - 6.5 ft

6. I will only install the acoustic treatment in the back when i will be producing & doing the final mixing/mastering.

7. I will be taking out the big JBL speaker out of the room when doing my mixing /mastering.

My Ideas for the Back Wall Area Acoustic Treatment:

Closet/ Wall Corner with Boxes:

. 2 Bass Traps 24”x48”x 4” thick covering the whole corner
. Will need to tilt one of them slightly due to ceiling height < 8ft

Closet Opening: Either:

A. . 2 Vertical 24"x48"x 6" Thick Bass Traps on Floor
. 1 Horizontal 24"x48"x 6" Thick Bass Trap on top of the 2 vertical bass traps
. Another bass trap of of smaller dimension on top of the horizontal 6 inch thick bass trap, in order to close up the 7 inch hole/gap of the
closet opening. This will probably have to be a Foam trap!

OR

B. . 1 Horizontal 24"x48"x 6" Thick Bass Trap on the floor
. 2 QRD Diffusers on Top of the Horizontal Bass Trap
. Another bass trap of of smaller dimension on top of the Diffusers, in order to close up the 7 inch hole/gap of the closet opening. This will
probably have to be a Foam trap!

Hallway to Door area: Either:

A. Put: . 1 24"X48"x 4" Bass Trap on the side Side Hallway Wall
. 1 24"x48"x 4" Bass Trap on the Door

OR

B. Put 1 24"x48" x 6 Inch thick Bass Trap on a stand in front of the hallway aligned with the traps/diffusers in the closet opening
Also Put another Bass trap horizontal on the floor beneath the Bass Trap on the stand

QUESTIONS

1. To Diffuse Or Not to Diffuse ?

Since there will be a lot of bass trapping around the room, i thought it might be nice to have some Diffusers in the back to not make the room to
dead and make it a little brighter.
I watched Ethan's Real Trap video on diffusers and must say that I can see that being a nice compliment to the studio with all those bass traps around, especially since this particular diffuser has some bass trapping qualities. (GIK & Primacoustic also seem to have comparable QRD diffusers)

1b. The Listening Position is just over 6 feet away from where the diffusers will be.
I am aware about the whole 1ft away for every 1 inch of diffuser deepness rule But Based on that and the general "small" dimensions of the room, would it still be
recommended to have such QRD Diffusers, or should I just concentrate on having 6 inch thick Bass Traps behind the listening position?

NOTES:
. With the Bass Traps in the left corner of the wall/closet , i should be able to completely seal the whole closet opening with the bass traps and or diffusers as explained above.
. I know some would say to just use the plastic cases/boxes with the records in it as diffusers, but i don't think that would be the most effective way to treat the back side of the room.

2. Closet Air Gap: As I mentioned before, between the Bass Traps/ Diffusers and the Record Boxes in the closet, there will be an Air gap > 8".
Is my thinking correct that this will help the bass trapping somewhat?

3. Would adding a Bass Trap right behind a Diffuser help any for additional absorption?

4. Acoustic Treatment for the Hallway area to the Door:
Ok what do you guys think I should do about this area based on what will be done with the closet side?

5. Should i add some foam treatment on the 4.75 inches of wall exposure between the closet and the hallway, or leave that untreated?

Well i hope this all makes sense.
Thank you for your time, and looking forward to your ideas and advise on this set up.

Cheers
