Need advice on Soundcard - New to recording

Hi, everyone, I just signed up and I am hoping someone can help me. I am a guitarist who is looking to finally start recording some of my music on my computer. My total budget is about $400.00

Here is my goal : I want to be able to record multi tracks of my playing. I want the sound to be as good as it can on my setup. I do have a POD, so I will use that to play thru. Here is my setup: PIII 667 Mhz, 20 gig hard drive. Anyone heard about the GUITAR PORT from Line 6? Would that work instead of a soundcard?

WHat I need to know: What would be a good sound card under $300.00 that would suit my needs best? It must be able to interface with my Pod. What kind of connector would I need to hook my Pod into the soundcard? ALso what are some good budget monitors for a beginner. I dont plan on making professional music here, but I want it to sound as good as it can for a modest budget.

Software: Which recording software would be good to make multitracked guitar tracks?

I appreciate any help, I really want to get into home recording but I need to know what to get. Thanks!

the guitar port would function as a soundcard, if your computer is USB capable...however, since you already have the pod, you are paying for more than you need....for about $149 you could get the Delta Audiophile 2496.....have you tried recording with the existing soundcard on your computer?...its probably good enough to experiment with......

as far as monitors, the cheapest that you give you a step up in quality from a simple home stereo reciever and speakers would be the Yorkville YSM1's and the Tannoy Proto J's.....
