I live in Africa and have built my own studio behind my house. The biggest noise problem I have right now comes from the metal roof. Both rain and wind wreak havoc on any recording I could hope to do. Any advice on how to fix this?

It all depends on how "DIY" you want it to be. lol
I am sure if you wanted to, you could suspend a tarp over your roof for next to nothing. Or you could go as far as to replace your entire roof with something that wont "ping" when rain hits it, or howl in the wind. Could always tar the top of your roof, and throw down some shingles or something. I wouldn't have any other ideas though. These may be a quick fix if you don't mind it looking funny. :P

Thanks for the advice.

So, a tarp (that might be the only one of your options available here) will reduce or eliminate the wind noise? I understand how it would absorb the impact of rain drops but the wind is stumping me.

Well the wind is another thing. I was giving the tarp a throw for the rain. But wind, I would probably look into stuffing the recessed portions on the slated metal roof. if your roof looks something like this...

Fill in the holes with something to avoid the wind flowing through them. I would use something easily available though, unless you could spray expanding foam in there. :)
