I have a budget home studio. My equipment I have is;

-Ableton Live Suite 8

-Quad Core system with 4gb DDR5 RAM

-M-Audio pre-amp audio interface

-Sure PG58

-Roland FP4 Digital piano and MIDI keyboard

-Electric Acoustic Guitar (Martinez) and a cheapo electric guitar

I'm looking to buy more hardware but also new software, I don't like Ableton very much, I recording acoustic rock and rock music, I was thinking of getting Pro-Tools.

Any suggestions? Thanks :)

I just use Cubase le5... and the free programs of native instruments. They have Kontak that gives some decent vst's.

Reaper is good aswell. And you have audacity

I kinda think you won't find any perfect software, just check the programs we mention and see if you like them. Test them and such...

Sequencer choice is subjective. It all does pretty much the same thing unless you need someone's particular tool.

Try Reaper.
It's free to try (fully functional too) with only a nag screen.
And the money you'll save with its $50 price can go to other things.

Enjoi,

You absolutely need to go download Reaper at once. Run, don't walk, to the Cockos website here: REAPER | Audio Production Without Limits NOT only have I recorded both rock and acoustic albums with it, you cannot beat their fair pricing scheme. A better value you will not find.

Then I would add an audio editor. You can start with the free Audacity. But if you can afford it, Adobe Audition or Sound Forge are much more powerful.

Good luck!

Ken
