need a simple laptop setup for a friend

he's already got the laptop (packard bell).
i'd like to set him up with a simple program that lets him record using the mic input of his laptop.

anything simple that contains:
record function from the mic input.
multiple tracks
easy to record-> mix-> burn to cd.

and it HAS to be EASY to use (VERY easy!), as he's not that recording-inclined :)

any free software out there?

he is not going to get very good quality using mic input.
there is lots of free software at hitsquad.com like audacity
or he could try powertracks that i like (50 bucks).
he cant expect though the computer to know whats in his mind.
recording is WORK no matter which program he uses.

he's a REALLY good musicians, just without ANY experience in recording before, and i really want to set him up with something easy at first.
when he sees it doesn't sound that good, he'll hopefully buy some new stuff.
