I've been using the same Fostex T-20's since 1986. Replaced the cord twice, earpad once, and resoldered one transducer. I think it's time for something new. In addition, during longer sessions they start hurting my outer ears from being mashed into the side of my head. You'd think I'd have already replaced these, but I really do like them. If I could find a new pair I'd buy those.

The Fostex T-20's were relatively accurate and I'd like something at least as good or better.

Right now I'm considering:

Sennheiser HD380 Pro's, HD25 MkII's
Sony 7509HD's
Sure SHR840's
AKG K271 MkII's
Fostex T-50 new series, whatever the number is.

I'm open to anything I might have missed. If you have one of the above models please tell me how you like it and what you think of it's accuracy and comfort.

Sennheiser HD280's will give you *great* isolation, but if your ears hurt from getting smushed, the 280's will only make it worse. I use them all the time for tracking, but if I have to wear them for 4 hours or more, I use Audio-Technica ATH-50's.-Richie

I have the AKG K240 MkII, which is very similar in build to the K271 and very comfortable. They're a bit bass-shy, and the bass isn't as punchy as on the Sony MD-7506. They're more comfortable than the Sony though.

I agree that the Senn HD280's feel tight, especially when new. But I like them so much for their isolation and relatively flat response that I did a little judicious headband spreading and now they're quite comfy.
