Need a new element for my Shure Model 51

So I just bought a used Shure Model 51 and found it's dead. I get a completed connection (short) across pins 2 and 3. So I'm looking to put in a new element. My first choice would be the Shure R59 from an SM-57 or SM-58. But looking at the length of those cartridges I'd doubt they'll fit in the shell of a Model 51.

I've read your postings from afar for years, so I thought I'd join to see what you guys would suggest for such a shallow shell design. I want to use it for actual on-stage work, low impedence, like an SM-58 would do.

Any suggestions?

Wow!!!

101 views here without a single post in reply! I even posted the question in the microphone section, and had an additional 102 views, and got nothing. That makes 203 people looking at a simple question about a very common vintage Shure mic, and knowing nothing about it.

It appears I picked the wrong group of "experts".

Good luck guys, I'm gone...

Good luck to you too!
But actually what is it you are trying to accomplish from this mic? are you just using the housing? A sm58 is very different than a model 51.
